NPCS
![]() THE RESIDENTSThis list is not intended to be exhaustive. Instead, think of it as a shortlist of characters other PCs have encountered, or who will be encountered shortly after game opening. Almira: The unofficial mayor of the town, a tired thirties-looking woman who speaks with calm authority. When in doubt, she speaks for the town. Cindermalka: Physically, the youngest resident of Lamplight. She appears to be somewhere around the border between fifteen and sixteen. A social butterfly who knows everyone in town personally and smiles easily; however, if you catch her when she thinks no one's looking, she always seems to be carrying a great grief. Tyricho: The young-seeming man who is the third Captain of the Town Watch. (His father was the second.) Used to be cocky, but is now best described as "stressed." When new characters arrive, the first thing they hear is usually the member of the Watch on-shift yelling for someone to get him. THE POWERSExactly what they are is unknown. No one can remember a time when they weren't there, at least not since the Shell covered the sky. They simply are, and may well be there long after the living are gone. The Doc: The sole and seemingly permanent resident of Yteric Medical Center. The Doc is exceptionally good at their job, but their bedside manner can be described as 'curt' at best. The price for any medical care received from them is a small vial of blood, which the Doc extracts themselves before they will even speak to a patient about their problem. Even characters who do not normally have blood will find that the Doc is able to get some. In exchange, they will treat near any ailment, and their expertise ranges from full surgical to endocrine to neurology. Just don't come to them for mental health, they don't know anything about it. No one ever clearly remembers the Doc's face after a visit. The Logger: You will only rarely see the Logger herself. Instead, what you will usually see is the lights of her truck, as she comes and goes, driving through the gate with whatever supplies she's brought from outside the city. And that "through the gate" is literal - it doesn't open or close for her, but she and her truck and anything in the bed simply pass through it. The woman herself is nothing more than a vague shape in the cab, with the reddish glow of a cigarette in her mouth. She supplies the town with lumber and hardware - some of it scavenged from the rest of the city, some of it from parts unknown further afield - through the Logger's Hardware store. The Lamplighter: This ghost can be seen around town from time to time around the city, living up to his name and carefully inspecting the lanterns. He appears as a slim man with a handheld lantern attached to the end of a stick, usually swinging over his shoulder. In contrast to the majority of townspeople, his clothes are clearly tailored, his coat cinching in at the waist. Other than his lantern - which is different every time he's seen, in both color and style - he appears wispy and ethereal, as though made of smoke. He always wears a hat with a brim that disguises his eyes. All characters receive a brief visit from the Lamplighter not long after they get settled in, as detailed on the Marks and Death page. ???: The voice of a child that called you away from danger and to Lamplight. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee. The Shell: [wall noises] |
